A wild hat to crochet…pattern available on http://girlinsheepsclothing.wordpress.com
A little motif-crochet to brighten up your day!
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day (I guess?) check out the basic procedure of Irish Crochet Lace! I never realized how smart and free a technique it is. As you see in the video, you stabilize the motifs onto fabric before working them together with chains and picots!
I can see trying this on a larger scale with chunkier yarns and hooks…a little less “ye olde Cornish [Irish] teahouse” eh? A bit more moderne, perhaps? What if I stabilized the motifs onto dressmaker’s pattern pieces and then chained and picoted them together into shape? Hmmmm.
Hey, it’s better than green beer!
Or is it?
Web Lace from New Directions in Crochet by Anne Rabun Ough…dreaming up a lacy shawl for Mom this spring. Yarn is Patons Bamboo Silk in color Almond, but I think I prefer to call it almondine! Isn’t it a beautiful color? Kind of an oyster-grey. I nearly went with ivory, but once I began to think about Nashville summer sun, thought that might be a bit too blinding.
Welcome to Swatch This! Make yourself some tea and stay awhile. Here in my inaugural post, I suppose I’d better explain what we’re doing here. I plan to use this mini-blog as an exploration of the design process, focusing on knit and crochet, but you may see some sewing or embroidery pop up from time to time. I will be sharing lots of swatches (mais, oui!), sources of inspiration, new techniques, and prattling on about craft in general. I hope you’ll enjoy the process with me!
